Does my motorhome need a Clean Truck Check?

Here is how CARB describes the motorhome requirements, in general terms:

• CARB states that a non-gasoline motorhome of any model year with a GVWR over 14,000 pounds that is registered in California must meet Clean Truck Check requirements. (source)
• According to CARB, non-commercial (recreational) motorhomes test once a year, while commercial-use motorhomes test twice a year. (source)
• Owners report the motorhome in CARB's CTC-VIS system, pay the annual compliance fee, and submit passing tests by the deadline — CARB notes that missing requirements can lead to DMV registration holds. (source)

In short: if your RV is a diesel (or other non-gasoline) motorhome over 14,000 lbs GVWR — typically diesel pushers, many Class A coaches and Super Cs on truck chassis — it's likely covered. Gasoline motorhomes aren't.

How a mobile RV Clean Truck Check works

1. Book

   Tell us the motorhome (year, make, chassis), where it's parked, and any warning lights.

2. We come to the RV

   RV park, campground, storage lot, hotel lot or driveway — any time, day or night.

3. Testing

   Most newer diesel motorhomes are tested through the on-board diagnostics (OBD) port. CARB sets the method for each vehicle.

4. Results & next steps

   We explain the result. If there's an engine or emissions problem, we can diagnose it on the spot.

What to have ready

• The motorhome and keys, parked where we can safely reach the engine and diagnostic port
• VIN, license plate and registration
• Your CTC-VIS login (CARB's reporting system) and any CARB notices
• Permission from the RV park or storage lot for us to work on site, if needed

If your motorhome has a problem

A failed or incomplete test usually points to an engine or emissions-system issue — fault codes, readiness monitors or aftertreatment (DPF / DEF) problems. We can diagnose the problem on the spot and quote the repair before any work starts. While we're there, a diesel oil change can be done in the same visit.
