What is CARB Clean Truck Check?

Clean Truck Check (often shortened to CTC) is the California Air Resources Board's heavy-duty vehicle inspection and maintenance program. It exists to make sure the emissions control systems on heavy-duty trucks keep working throughout the truck's life — and that problems get repaired instead of ignored.

In general terms, here is how CARB describes the program:

Who may need a Clean Truck Check?

If you own or operate a heavy-duty diesel truck — or another non-gasoline heavy-duty vehicle — that runs on California roads, Clean Truck Check likely applies to you. That typically includes:

• Owner-operators running tractors, box trucks or dump trucks
• Small fleets and local businesses with heavy-duty work trucks
• Buses, shuttles and agricultural vehicles

How our mobile Clean Truck Check works

1. Book

   Book online or call. Tell us the truck, where it's parked, and whether any warning lights are on.

2. We come to you

   We drive to your truck — yard, job site, parking spot or home. No need to take it anywhere.

3. Testing

   The test method depends on your truck. Newer trucks are generally tested through the on-board diagnostics (OBD) system; CARB specifies the method for each vehicle.

4. Results explained

   We walk you through the result in plain language.

5. Next steps if needed

   If there's a problem, we can diagnose it and give you a repair estimate right there.

What should I have ready?

• The truck parked somewhere safe we can reach, and the keys
• VIN, license plate and registration information
• Any previous Clean Truck Check results or notices from CARB
• A note of any warning lights or running problems

You'll also want access to your CTC-VIS account (CARB's reporting system) for your own records.

How long does testing usually take?

It depends on which test your truck needs. An OBD-based test is typically a short visit. Older trucks that require a different procedure can take longer, and anything that needs diagnosis adds time. We'll give you a time estimate when you book so you can plan your day around it.

What happens if a problem is discovered?

A problem during testing is information, not a disaster. It usually means something in the engine or emissions system isn't working as designed — often reported as fault codes or a failed monitor. We'll explain what the test found. Nothing is repaired without your approval.

Can you diagnose the truck afterward?

Yes. We're a full-service mobile truck mechanic, not just a tester. Instead of taking your truck somewhere else, we can move straight into truck diagnostics to find the actual cause — because a fault code tells you which system reported the problem, not always which part failed.

Can repairs be performed afterward?

In many cases, yes. After diagnosis you get an estimate. Once you approve it, we can perform the truck repair at your truck and help you get back on track for retesting. If a job needs a shop or is outside what we do, we'll tell you upfront. Afterward, a preventive maintenance plan and regular oil changes help keep the problem from coming back.
