Get your paperwork organized once
Keep these in one folder (paper or on your phone):
- VIN, plate number and registration for the truck
- Your CARB reporting system (CTC-VIS) login details
- Records of past tests and compliance fee payments
- Any notices you've received from CARB
- Recent maintenance records — especially anything emissions-related
Plan testing around your routes
Don't wait until the week of your deadline. Book a time when the truck will be parked anyway — at home, at the yard, between loads. Because we're mobile, many owner-operators have us do their Clean Truck Check and an oil change in the same visit.
If your truck has had any warning lights or running issues, mention it when you book — you want time to fix anything before your deadline.
Treat warning lights as early warnings
